He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 or at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed for 30 days on 5 October 1862, but that expired and he failed to return.

His service from the State of Alabama.1 He's also seen as H.M. Good. He's listed as killed on South Mountain in a casualty list for Rodes' Brigade in the Montgomery Weekly Advertiser of 8 October 1862.
