He enlisted as Private, Company C (later I), 6th Alabama Infantry on 26 August 1861 at Camp Jones.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 186. He was in Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, VA but was back with his Company by the Fall of 1863, and was with them until furloughed home in December 1864.
