An unmarried merchant from St. Johns, New Brunswick, Canada, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 9th Alabama Infantry on 23 May 1861 in Guntersville, AL. He was severely wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 but returned to duty by August.
On the Campaign
He was listed as missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, with no further record, probably killed.
