A married 30 year old sailor in Mobile, AL, he enlisted there as Private, Company G, 9th Alabama Infantry on 6 March 1862. He fought at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines' Mill, Frazier's Farm, and Manassas in Virginia in 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 while fighting with the 3rd Alabama Infantry.
