Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 24 year old farmer at Ashville, AL, he enlisted there on 4 June 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A, 10th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at the siege of Harpers Ferry 13 - 15 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 8 October, was formally exchanged on 10 November, and returned to duty on 27 November 1862.

He was killed in action at Salem Church, VA on 3 May 1863.

His father Oscar filed a claim for his final pay of $70.09 1/2 in December 1863.

His service from the State of Alabama,1 which says he was captured in action at the siege of Harpers Ferry 13 - 15 September 1862, and his Compiled Service Records,2 online from fold3. He's also on the Confederates In Frederick List.3 His memorial in Griffithville, AR is on Findagrave; I have found no connection with him or family which would tell us why he might be buried there.

His brother Alamoth was also in Company A.
