An unmarried 23 year old farmer in Guntersville, he enlisted there as Private, Company E, 48th Alabama Infantry on 31 March 1862.

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died on 17 October 1862, place not given, but possibly at home in Marshall County.
