A 33 year old farmer in Northampton County, he enlisted there as Private, Company B, First North Carolina Cavalry on 12 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm near Middletown, MD on 10 September 1862 and captured the next day.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated and he was paroled at Boonsboro, MD on 3 October 1862. He was afterward absent at home, probably to the end of the war.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer in Woodville Township, Bertie County, NC.
