Before Sharpsburg

A 21 year old school teacher at Ellaville in Schley County, he enlisted as Corporal, Company B, 12th Georgia Infantry on 15 June 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant on 17 March 1862 and was wounded at McDowell, VA on 8 May and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant the next day.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 10 February 1864. He was wounded at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864 and resigned due to disability on 16 February 1865.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a retail merchant (storekeeper) in Shellman in Randolph County.

He married Isabella Indiana Reid (1841-1879) in April 1864 and they had 6 children. He married again, to Mary E. Jenkins (1839-1900) in 1880.
