A 26 year old bricklayer, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 4th US Infantry on 12 September 1857 in Philadelphia for 5 years. He was absent without leave for 5 months from May to October 1858, but returned to duty. He transferred to Company I, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 14 October 1862.
