Before Sharpsburg

Age 30, from New Hanover County, he enrolled and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company D, 3rd North Carolina Infantry on 16 May 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 27 November and Captain on 26 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the side in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and died later that day in Shepherdstown, VA.

The rest of the War

He was originally buried in Shepherdstown, but removed home by the family later.
