Before Sharpsburg
A 21 year old farmer on his father's place at Wilkesboro in Wilkes County, he enlisted in Wake County and mustered as Private, Company B, First North Carolina Infantry on 31 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action near Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 20 September near Keedysville, MD. He was mortally wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and died in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 11 June 1863.
