Before Sharpsburg
An unmarried 26 year old laborer in Mobile, he enlisted there as Private, Company I, 8th Alabama Infantry on 20 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured. He was later cited for bravery there on a regimental Roll of Honor.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 30 September, was a patient in a Richmond, VA hospital by 31 October and to at least 11 November 1862, and in the Ross General Hospital in Mobile, AL in March and April 1863. He was absent, wounded to at least May 1863, but was in action again at Gettysburg in July. He was promoted to 4th Corporal by January 1864 and was killed at the Crater at Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864.
