He enlisted in Tuskegee as a Private in Company C, 3rd Alabama Infantry on 27 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware, then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 October and exchanged there on 10 November 1862. He was discharged by May 1863 after providing a substitute.

After the War

By 1880 he was a farmer in Tuskegee, AL.

He married Martha Lucia Moore (1837-1868) in March 1866. He married again, Anne Coleman Haywood (1847-1906) in February 1870 and they had 5 children.
