Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Union Springs as a Private in Company D, 3rd Alabama Infantry on 26 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and was quoted afterward:

The company was now reduced to 14 men present for duty [after Sharpsburg] ... Tom Bagby said that we were 'only reduced to our fighting men.'

The rest of the War

He was reported missing after Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863 but was present with his unit to at least November 1863.
