Age 23, he enlisted as a Private in Company D, 3rd Alabama Infantry on 8 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and reported losing his ramrod there.

The rest of the War

He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and was killed at Cold Harbor, VA on 4 June 1864.
