About age 20, from Richmond County, he enlisted at Camp McDonald, Cobb County, GA as Private, Company K, 22nd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861. They were reorganized as Company A by November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the face in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA on 6 December 1862 with pneumonia and died there on 16 January 1863, possibly of apoplexy (a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke).
