He enlisted as Private, Company G, 22nd Georgia Infantry on 30 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed 3rd Sergeant and was in Chimborazo Hospital #2 in Richmond, VA in February 1863 for chronic bronchitis. On 17 July 1863 he was certified incapable of further active field service (since January 1863) and was then on detached duty in Atlanta to the end of the war.
