He enlisted as Private, Company K, 22nd Georgia Infantry on 26 February (or 3 March) 1862 in Conyers.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot, his arm broken, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Disabled by his wound he was detailed variously to a hospital, as camp cook, and to the Brigade Commissary to the end of the war. He was surrendered with his Company at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
