Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old worker on his parent's farm near Morganton in Burke County, North Carolina. He enlisted there on 15 October 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 35th North Carolina Infantry on 29 October near Raleigh.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Isaac Franklin made a claim for his final pay in May 1863.

Azor's brothers Isom/Isham Franklin (1840-1910) and Lenoir Franklin (c. 1845-1885) may have been with him in Maryland in 1862. A fourth brother Rufus H. Franklin (c. 1843-1862) was also in Company K, but died of a fever at home in January 1862.
