Before Sharpsburg
A 21 year old farmer, he enlisted on 5 October 1861 at Henderson and mustered as Private, Company G, 35th North Carolina Infantry on 5 November near Raleigh.
On the Campaign
He was seriously wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and later placed on the Roll of Honor.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 25 October. He was shown as absent on wounded furlough on the Company rolls of late 1864 and early 1865.
