Before Sharpsburg
A 22 year old farmer, he enlisted on 20 September 1861 in Chatham County and mustered as Private, Company D, 35th North Carolina Infantry on 17 October near Raleigh.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds on 24 September 1862, probably at a Federal field hospital near the battlefield.
