Before Sharpsburg
A 24 year old farmer in Onslow County, he enlisted there on 6 September 1861 and mustered as Private, Company A, 35th North Carolina Infantry on 17 October near Raleigh.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds on 15 October (or 1 November) 1862, probably while on furlough home to North Carolina.
