Age 26 (or 18), from Henderson County, he enlisted and mustered there as Private, Company H, 25th North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a hospital in Warrenton, VA on 28 September 1862.
