Before Sharpsburg
From Charleston, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 23rd South Carolina Infantry on 11 November 1861 in Santee.
On the Campaign
He was "severely" wounded and listed as missing in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was declared a deserter in May 1863 but returned to duty sometime that year. He was absent, sick in the Summer of 1864 and furloughed, but absent without leave after September. He was captured in 1865.
