Before Sharpsburg

Age 35, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 13th South Carolina Infantry on 26 August 1861 at Frog Level Depot, Newberry District. He was appointed 4th Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in Jackson Hospital in Richmond, VA in October, furloughed home for 30 days on the 6th, and returned to duty in November 1862. He was in a Richmond hospital and on furlough home, sick, in November and December 1863 and wounded again, in the left foot, in May 1864. He was afterward in hospitals in Richmond and Columbia, SC to at least October 1864.
