Age 18, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 13th South Carolina Infantry on 28 August 1861 at Hope's Station in the Lexington District.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was back with his Company by November 1862 but was killed accidentally at Martinsburg, VA (now WV) on 16 July 1863.
