A 37 (or 35) year old farmer, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 13th South Carolina Infantry on 3 September 1861 at Pacolet Depot, Spartanburg District. He was sick in Virginia hospitals in July and August 1862, but returned to duty on 8 August.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
