He enlisted as Private, Company A, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 18 November 1861 in Columbia.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled and in a hospital in Richmond by 9 October and furloughed the next day. He was declared exchanged on 10 November to return to duty and was mortally wounded and captured at Kinston, NC on 14 December. He died on 31 December 1862.
