From the York District, he enlisted as Private, Company E, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 23 November 1861 in Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal in November 1862 and was killed in action at the Crater near Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1863.
