From the York District, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 27 November 1861 in Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 with no later military record.

The rest of the War

He was present with his Company all through the war until he was captured near Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD until released on 27 June 1865.
