He enlisted as Private, Company F, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 27 November 1861 in Columbia, SC.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at the Crate near Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864. He was held at Point Lookout until transferred to Elmira, NY on 8 August 1864. He died there of disease on 9 May 1865.
