From the Barnwell District, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 2 January 1862.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Except for a furlough in November - December 1864, he was present with his Company through the war until he was captured in Richmond, VA on 6 April (or at Appomottox on 7 April) 1865. He was held at Point Lookout, MD until released on 24 June 1865.
