He enlisted as Private, Company G, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 2 January 1862.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was sick with typhoid fever in a hospital in Wilmington, NC and on furlough in March and April 1863 then present with his Company until granted a 10 day furlough in February 1864. He was slightly wounded by a gunshot to his right thigh on 19 May 1864 and furloughed on 1 June with no later military record.
