Before Sharpsburg
From Jacksonville in the Lancaster District, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 9 December 1861 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in the arm action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 29 September and furloughed for 30 days on 3 October. He returned to duty but was killed at Jackson, MS on 15 July 1863.
