Before Sharpsburg
In 1852 he was a Constable in the Pickens District, SC. On 11 July 1861, giving his age as 39, he enlisted there as 2nd Corporal, Company G, 12th South Carolina Infantry. He was reduced to Private, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

Caleb married Sarah Ann Boggs (b. 1826) in about 1844 and they had 4 sons. She applied for his final pay in October 1862, as Sarah Ann O'Briant, but his account was not settled until September 1864. She finally received the funds in December; $161.
