He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 9 ) or 12) December 1861 at Camp Hampton, Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was listed as missing in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862, but had been captured there.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware until sent to Aikens Landing, VA on 2 October 1862 for exchange. He was declared formally exchanged on 10 November and was back with his Company by December 1862. He transferred to Company F, 5th South Carolina Infantry (Rifles) on 28 August 1863 (in exchange for R.Y. Russell). He died, about 11 April 1864, cause not given, in the Montgomery White Sulphur Springs (VA) Hospital.
