Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as Private, Company K, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 9 December 1861 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA in October, was furloughed on the 14th, and returned to duty. He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his face which "destroyed both eyes" about 11 November 1864 at Petersburg, VA and died in the CS General Hospital there on 12 November.
