Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as Private, Company G (later B), 17th South Carolina Infantry on 14 December 1861 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC.
On the Campaign
He was probably wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was absent on wounded furlough to at least February 1863. He returned to duty and was with his Company until he was captured at Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865 and sent to Point Lookout, MD. He was released on 26 June 1865.
