From the Chester District, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 14 January 1862 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC.
On the Campaign
He was listed as missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at the Crater near Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864. He was briefly a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD then sent on to Elmira, NY on 8 August, where he died of pneumonia on 9 November 1864.
