From the York District, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 27 November 1861 in Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on the evening of 16 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 17 October and furloughed for 25 days on 20 November 1862. He was then with his Company until captured near Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD until released on 25 June 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance.
