Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 22 year old painter in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 7th Louisiana Infantry in New Orleans on 7 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was wounded at Cold Harbor, VA on 27 June 1862 and returned to duty in September.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Harpers Ferry on 15 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right arm at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was in hospitals in Richmond. He was sent back to his Company on 19 January 1864 but was captured in the Wilderness, VA on 5 May. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD and sent to Elmira, NY on 15 August 1864. On 25 February 1865 he was sent back to Point Lookout and on to James River, VA for exchange.
