He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 but exchanged almost immediately, at City Point, VA on 10 May. He was detailed to a hospital in Lynchburg as disabled for field service on 18 November 1863.
