Age 24, from Guilford County, he enlisted as Private, Company H, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Guilford.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal on 3 May 1863. He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864, was a prisoner at Point Lookout, then transferred to Elmira, NY on 6 August. He was released on 12 June 1865.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1910 he was a farmer in Guilford County, NC.
