Before Sharpsburg
Age 21 from Bertie County, he enlisted as Private, Company F, First North Carolina Infantry on 5 July 1861 in Hertford County.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the shoulder - bruised shoulder and dislocated left arm - in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Richmond by 22 September and returned to duty in October. He was listed as captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA, on 12 May 1864 but there are no Federal records for him as a POW and no further military record.
