He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863, was a prisoner at Fort Delaware, then transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 15 November. He took an oath of allegiance on 24 January 1864 and enlisted in Company A of the First US Volunteers.
