Before Sharpsburg
Age 33, from Guilford County, he enlisted as Private, Company A, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Guilford.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was back with his Company in May 1863 but was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. He was discharged for tuberculosis ("phthisis pulmonalis") on 12 April 1864.
