He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was absent, wounded to at least November 1862, listed as a prisoner into May 1863, and absent without leave "in the enemy lines" afterward. He probably never returned to his unit and was declared a deserter to the enemy at Plymouth, NC by August 1864.
