Before Sharpsburg

Age 30, from Alamance County, he was conscripted as Private, Company E, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Raleigh.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Danville, VA into October and later in North Carolina. He was back with his unit by January 1863 but was detailed to the Division Pioneer Corps on 8 March 1863. He returned to his Company in about September 1864 and was with them to at least December.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1900 he was a miller and farmer at Boon's (now Boone) Station in Alamance County, NC.
