Before Sharpsburg
A 35 year old farmer in Guilford County, he was conscripted as Private, Company H, First North Carolina Infantry on 8 March 1862 in Guilford.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds and typhoid fever in CS Army General Hospital #22 in Richmond, VA on 19 October 1862.

He married Thankful Abigail Summers (later Permar, b. 1833) in December 1859. They had a son Simeon Sherron May (b.1860) who died after a year and three months.
