Before Sharpsburg
Age 25, from Orange County, he enlisted as Private, Company D, First North Carolina Infantry on 3 March 1862 in Orange.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in hospitals into March 1863 and then returned to duty. He was in hospitals again, sick for much of 1863 but back with his Company in November. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond in February 1864 with no further record apart from a receipt for his belongings after his death, later in 1864, date and place not given.
